I don't know if this is a set-piece each year, or if it started with our year. I never considered it before, but looking at that prop chainsaw it doesn't seem that likely that it was a one-shot performance. Herr Rockey found an article in a magazine about an African "witch doctor" who opened a patient's head to cure a headache, and he told us the story in great detail (in german), and acted it out. On Joan Erickson, as it happens. On a day I had the camera with me, as it happens. There's a slight possibility it was December 17 of some year, but I'm not at all sure the notations on the negative sleeves are reliable for this roll.

This picture and the rest of the set appeared on pages 50 and 51 of the 1971 Norhian (yearbook), so presumably it was in fact shot in the 70-71 school year. Besides, I don't think Joan was around the year before (if not, probably because her father was on sabatical).
