Book Note: Laurell K. Hamilton, Guilty Pleasures

I read this book about 6-Dec-2001. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 1993. This note was last modified Saturday, 19-Aug-2006 10:42:53 PDT.

This note does not contain major spoilers for the book.

A number of people had suggested these, not so much as "good" as "enjoyable". That sounded hopeful. I doubt I'm going to get hooked, though. Too much horror content, too much dependence on terror and violence. Too many glitches that any decent copy-editor would have noted, too.

This one is the first of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. There are quite a few of them, and I imagine they improve at least for a while. This one isn't bad; I had no trouble finishing it. Anita herself is a complex and somewhat interesting character. Some of the vampires are even somewhat nuanced.

I do like the idea of the Church of Eternal Life. By turning you into a vampire, they can actually deliver on the promise.
