I read this book about 11-Apr-2002. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 1965. This note was last modified Thursday, 19-Dec-2002 16:30:32 PST.
First of the Lord Ramage novels. Dudley Pope was the semi-anointed successor to C.S. Forester (I've noted two references to Ramage having served with Hornblower in a previous commission). Oh, um, for people not into this stuff, this all means this is a Napoleonic War era British Navy story.
Lord Ramage is the opposite of Hornblower -- a Lord, and from a naval family. His particular problem is that his father still has enemies in the Navy who are happy to pick on him.
I like him. His particular 5-point quirk seems to be that his mind wanders around and he keeps thinking he's not paying attention (not noticing that that's how he spots all the opportunities).
I really like the covers on these edtions, too. Nice paintings by Paul Wright.
