An interesting try. I picked this up used at Uncle Edgar's while killing time on some web site work for Don. It has interesting potential, but the craftmanship isn't there -- adequate straight prose, but not thought through. In particular I'm bothered that they didn't even consider trying to identify where the nuclear material came from by analysis of the fallout. There were a number of other failures to think things through as well. I don't believe I'll be seeking out the sequels.

One weird thing -- some aspects of the portrayal of the retired British admiral struck me as weirdly off. But the author is described as a well-known British journalist, so he ought to know better than me. But it seems to me that they got close and friendly with the American *awfully* fast, and without much of any backing and filling.
