I read this book about 21-Nov-2013. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 1996. This note was last modified Sunday, 12-Jan-2014 22:41:04 PST.
Now Anna is fighting wildfires in California. Well, she's on the medical team at an advance camp, anyway.
She and half a crew get cut off and have to deploy their shelters and let the fire pass over them. One injured man they were carrying is abandoned, and another is murdered. And it turns out the fire started from the campfire of the brother of yet another one of them, far away (and before his sister or the rest of the crew arrived).
Then the weather closes in, and the road is blocked, so they're stuck up there without resupply for several days, with, it seems likely, a murder among them. Plus other social issues. Gets kind of hairy a couple of times.
Frederick Stanton (the FBI agent that has appeared in two previous books) brings himself out to the main base camp to help at a distance, too. Maybe something will come of the romance—at least a short disaster.
