It feels older than the copyright given; I wonder if the background, or maybe even the story itself, actually dates back to magazine serials a long time before 1987?
Very light, kinda amusing. It's really a private eye novel, set in an SF universe and featuring a private eye with the ability to physically imitate about anybody, due to the modifications installed when he was in the chameleon corps.
