Book Note: Kerry Greenwood, Away with the Fairies

I read this book about 14-May-2017. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 2001. This note was last modified Thursday, 18-May-2017 16:57:48 PDT.

This is book 11 of the "Phryne Fisher" series.

This note contains spoilers for the book.

The source for the TV series. I liked the TV series somewhat, and the books got recommended. I seem to be liking the books quite a lot more than the TV series (anybody shocked?).

This one doesn't overlap any of the TV episodes I've seen. She investigates the murder of a writer and illustrator for a women's magazine, working there for a few weeks in the process. Meanwhile, her Chinese lover Lin Chung is kidnapped by pirates while on a silk buying expeditiong to China, and she has to interact with his mother over getting him back.

These are set in Australia; she's in Melbourne in this one (in most of them I think). There was more feminist momentum then than in parts of the US today (a sad commentary on the US today, among other things), but Miss Fisher is rather strong medicine for her times.
