Book Note: Joel Rosenberg, Home Front

I read this book about 4-Mar-2003. I've read this book before. The book is copyright 2003. This note was last modified Monday, 28-Oct-2013 20:45:10 PDT.

This note does not contain major spoilers for the book.

This is a reread only because I read the manuscript. It's just out. It's the first of a non-fantasy mystery series featuring Sparky Hemmingway, a dashing copy-editor living in Hardwood, North Dakota. He suddenly has dropped on him the problems of the daughter of an old buddy from their days in Vietnam, which he and the others from the old crowd have to deal with.

I think the delineation of the culture of Hardwood is one of the best parts. This is the same town, incidentally, that appears in his Hidden Ways fantasy series; but the fantasy doesn't leak over.
