New Eden is supposed to be civilized, sophisticated, and safe. Turns out not to be; assassination attempts left and right, news media completely controlled, gangs in charge of large parts of the city, and the political elite a bit confused about a lot o things.

Kris eventuatlly figures out enough to function there, without getting killed. She makes local friends and allies (including her maid's sister), and in the end prevents the slaughter of many of the political elite of the planet (in yet another Peterwald plot).
