I read this book about 20-Aug-2002. I've read this book before. The book is copyright 1959. This note was last modified Thursday, 19-Dec-2002 16:35:39 PST.
This one's a rather nice plagiarism fraud story. It does mean, I think, that he actually has Nero Wolfe reading a made-up book instead of a real one -- and this is one of the 5-6 a year "A" books, too. Then the author calls.
Once again, Stout has Archie tell us the key clue has just come by, and of course we see it, but he didn't at the time. I've never yet actually seen what the clue is at the time; even in rereads. I kinda resent it.
The plot hinges very nicely on writing styles, and the ability to identify them and to fake them. It's very nicely done. And who could dislike a book which contains a book called The Moth Who Ate Peanuts?
