Book Note: Walter Jon Williams, Conventions of War

I read this book about 6-Dec-2005. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 2005. This note was last modified Friday, 23-Dec-2005 21:24:24 PST.

This note contains spoilers for the book.

Third book of Dread Empire's Fall -- after the last Shaa dies, the Naxids take over, and the empire is plunged into war.

This one divides between Captain Martinez with the Fleet and Caroline Sula directing the guerilla fighters right on Zanshaa.

I'm 2/3 of the way through now, and I'm not sure what but something big is about to happen. Everything is moving towards each other.

It continues to bug me that Sula's access to the Registry Office computers is so useful and remains so secret.

Decent conclusion, not as much feeling of finality as I'd like. Like most modern "space opera" (as some try to call it) it doesn't work well for me; it has the wrong balance of scope, power, and thoughtfulness.
