Book Note: Diane Duane, A Wizard Alone

I read this book about 9-Jan-2004. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 2002. This note was last modified Saturday, 03-May-2014 08:26:57 PDT.

This is book 6 of the "Young Wizards" series.

This note contains spoilers for the book.

We've had this for a while, but I'm just now getting around to reading it. I'd have to say this marks the return of this series to its full form, something few series achieve (if they sag, they tend to end badly). I thought the previous two sagged quite badly.

I also don't seem to have a booknote on those two. I really thought I'd read it recently enough that there should be.

Well, anyway, this one is good. Nita gets mostly past the situational depression from losing her mother, with the help of a wizard-friendly counselor at the local school, and she and Kit help an autistic wizard (and more) get through his Ordeal and hold the Lone Power at bay for a while longer. It's a lot of fun; as usual the details are the best part. Kit's dog Ponch continues to grow in power and strangeness.
