Book Note: Diane Duane, The Wounded Sky

I read this book about 20-Jul-2004. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 1983. This note was last modified Thursday, 22-Jul-2004 21:52:25 PDT.

This note contains spoilers for the book.

It's an *ugh* Star Trek novel. And I have intimations that it's one of those stupid "change the physics of the universe and ruin everything" stories (as opposed to the smart ones, like Schild's Ladder). Still, it's by Diane Duane, and comes with good local recommendations, so it's worth a try.

I do like the crystaline aliens with the good physics.

Don't like the overall ontology, though, and don't like the "non-causal" science. Don't like that the book is filled with "hell-rides", as we started calling them when Zelazny over-indulged in the later Amber books. In fact I came very close to just putting it down 3/4 through, and I think I skimmed pretty fast over a lot of it.
