Book Note: Diane Duane, Wizards at War

I read this book about 26-Apr-2006. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 2005. This note was last modified Saturday, 03-May-2014 08:28:47 PDT.

This is book 8 of the "Young Wizards" series.

This note contains spoilers for the book.

Latest "young wizards" book. Once again the machinations of the Lone Power threaten the universe.

Despite the kids getting older and hence less powerful, I'm seeing clear power creep here. They have two friendly avatars of powers with them, the adult wizards on Earth are knocked out, and the Powers grant everybody extra power. Still, in the end it requires a deus ex grasshopper to resolve the situation.

I continue to like the general feel of these. The wizards mostly interact with each other in a very civilized way, better than most adults manage. I think the specter of sex (or at least "relationships") will not be able to be put off much longer.

The first couple of these are, I think, must-read material. Then, if you liked them, might as well keep going.
