Book Note: Linda Nagata, Limit of Vision

I read this book about 16-Jul-2003. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 2001. This note was last modified Saturday, 19-Jul-2003 20:59:46 PDT.

This note contains spoilers for the book.

First book of hers I've read. There were enough interesting discussions on rec.arts.sf.written to get me to try her.

This book was pretty interesting. It did feel to me like nobody paid nearly enough attention to the ecological consequences of releasing created organisms, viruses, or whatever. Were the main characters being driven by the symbiotic created organism all along, or what? Why didn't the rest of the world make a big deal of it?

Very nicely realized future world, and interesting characters as far as they went; but I'm left not knowing why most of the important characters did most of the important things that were done in the book.

That sounds more negative than I feel, but I can't really find anything wrong with it.
