I read this book about 11-Dec-2004. I've read this book before. The book is copyright 1983. This note was last modified Thursday, 22-May-2014 15:29:08 PDT.
I've also got a general page on Anthony Price.
Audley finds a village all set to murder a man -- the man who murdered their Old General, who was apparently not as good as he seemed, but rather better (deep investigation just turned up additional good works). Actually, Audley is put onto it by Colonel Butler's youngest daughter Jane, who is at university with Rebecca Maxwell-Smith. Audley takes leave to go see what's up.
Colonel Butler eventually has to figure out what's up too. He borrows a German anti-terrorist expert and sends him in. Audley pulls in some connections, including an Irishman that Colonel Morris provides and finds out more -- the "Gunner Kelly" who came to the Old General four years ago isn't the same one who was actually in his regiment; it's his cousin, who's been a terrorist, and is running from it and being hunted now. The bomb that gets the General was intended for him, and he and the people of Duntisbury Royal are out for blood.
Kelly was, among many other things, an instructor at Debreczen, and therefore actually saw some of the students.
