Book Note: Anthony Price, Here Be Monsters

I read this book about 17-Dec-2004. I've read this book before. The book is copyright 1985. This note was last modified Thursday, 22-May-2014 15:29:22 PDT.

This is book 15 of the "David Audley" series.

This note contains spoilers for the book.

I've also got a general page on Anthony Price.

The big Debrecen List book (spelling seems to vary between my editions; perhaps UK vs. US or something). Major Parker is killed on the Pointe du Hoc on a visit shortly after the anniversary ceremony. And shortly after visiting Caradog Thomas in his retirement nearby. Both of them figured in the Debrecen lists originally, and both were cleared. But had Audley perhaps made a mistake? Or is it a setup to get Audley now?

Elizabeth Loftus is assigned by Latimer (Butler is on leave) to find out. With Audley assisting her.

Most of the people they talk to are Classicists -- the Haddock was a bigwig in that, Willis was a classics master and Peter Barrie and even the technologist Willis rounds up studied them in University. Sounds pretty strange to an American; maybe back in the 1930s some important people came out of Classics, but today? Well, stranger things happen.

Then their Major Turnbull is killed while conducting what should be a routine investigation, just before they're due to meet him.

And Butler has Elizabeth reactivate the list yet again, finally.
