Book Note: Anthony Price, The Eyes of the Fleet

I read this book about 10-Jan-2005. This is the first time I've read this book. The book is copyright 1990. This note was last modified Monday, 17-Jan-2005 16:37:51 PST.

This note does not contain major spoilers for the book.

I've also got a general page on Anthony Price.

This is a nonfiction book; a popular history of frigates and frigate captains from 1793-1815, i.e. the period of Horatio Hornblower, Richard Bolitho, Lord Ramage, and Jack Aubrey. In fact, he chooses to include Hornblower as a historical figure, though not any of the others. (He's not, in case anybody was in any doubt.)

This came out nicely a year after The Memory Trap, but nothing has come out since that I know of. This appears to constitute retirement. A well-earned retirement, and I hope it's going well; even if I would like more books.

While I didn't find much trouble keeping reading, it left me feeling that this book was somehow rather thin. I don't really know why.
