DD-B's Snapshots, 1971-72

Actually, the year association is a bit weak for much of my work this old.

In 1971 I turned 17. I was in 11th and 12th grades. We were living in Northfield, at 907 Winona St. I was working for the Carleton administrative data processing center, and shooting a lot of pictures.

Rubicon was a movie that Ernst and I, and of course others, made for English class. We shot it in 16mm, and it had a fair amount of stunt work. I suppose I should dig more deeply into the files and do a whole page on it at some point; I made a whole photo album for it at the time.

A lot of these were scanned for the 30th class reunion presention in 2002; they're sized for that, which makes many of them quite big for online viewing at least on smaller screens (they're sized for the larger dimension to fit into 1024x7678, and not compressed much either).

Steven Brust, 1971. This roll was badly underexposed, poorly processed (by me), and generally a disaster. I'm only now, with scanning and digital editing, starting to be able to get anything off of it.

Homecoming bonfire
Homecoming bonfire
Homecoming bonfire, very probably fall 1971. I'm reasonably certain the central girl with the torch is Vicki Sorbo, and the one to her left is Joanne Wheeler. A couple of the ones on the right should be identifiable, but not by me 30 years later (at least so far). I never printed this at the time; I couldn't with the available technology and skills (available to me , I mean).

Jim Berg, Steven Brust, others
Jim Berg '73, Steven Brust '73, possibly Jill Boetcher '73 (or maybe Heather Clark '73 ?), and maybe that might be Julie Mellby on the right? Probably 1971-72 school year (it appeared on p. 88 in the '72 Norhian). One problem is that Jill doesn't appear in the '72 index, though.
Steve Horejsi using the terminal to Carleton's TSS-8 timesharing computer, perhaps in 1970 or 1971. The modem connects to the telephone acoustically, by placing the phone receiver in the cups of the coupler. It transmits (and receives) data at 110 baud. The computer itself has 32767 12-bit words of memory. It supports up to 16 simultaneous users. The disk drive stores 256k bytes of information, and is shared among the entire Carleton user community. Just in case you're feeling like your computer at home or at work is a little small or slow.
