Range Trip 3-Aug-2003

I went out to Oakdale with Greg Cotton and Pat Teal (and we connected with Tony von Krag there). Greg and Pat were working on Greg's two 1919s, which are averse (so far) to firing any large number of times in a row.

Tony on the other hand was playing with a new .17, which was quite reliable.

In between taking photos, I put over 100 rounds through my Ruger Mini-14. It behaved perfectly, but the sights need adjustment (and I didn't have targets to do anything careful).

Look closely at this and the next two. Sometimes I've caught the bolt in motion; the handle is ghostly or sometimes nearly invisible. No links or brass flying, though (and in many other tries I never caught a muzzle flash, either).
Magic smoke escapes!

Greg thinks probably a case-head separation.
Looking far better than it worked!
