DD-B's Snapshot Album for 1964

Most of the photos here so far are actually by my mother, Mary Dyer-Bennet. I do have a few photos of my own this old, but I haven't seen the negatives lately, and would rather not scan from the prints I have in the album.

These photos are from our great summer odyssey of the year—we travelled from Northfield to England, Germany, Switzerland, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, Greece, France, and Holland (my father had a job working on a project to produce math text books for the English-speaking African nations; that project worked at the Lake Victoria Hotel in Entebbe; and since we were traveling that far, we did a few things on the way in and out).

The Parthenon (rear)
The Parthenon (rear)
Photo by David Dyer-Bennet with my trusty Pixie 127 camera on Kodak Verichrome Pan film. I believe (from the vignetting, and the sky tones) that this was with a yellow filter. Scanned on my flatbed with transparency adapter, which produced a rather small number of tones in the relevant range. The Parthenon, Summer 1964

John, Mary at the Hotel zum Schwan in Karlshafen am Weser in Germany. Note that the slide was double-exposed. I suppose it's possible Mary handed me the camera to take this one; if so then that double-exposure is my fault. I think I prefer the theory that some waiter at the hotel took it.

"Close up Elephant eating" written on slide by Mary An elephant, really quite close. A wild elephant. Mary's camera had a fixed 50mm lens. REALLY quite close. (From a boat). The original was underexposed, and I think has shifted badly over time, so despite considerable work this isn't a very good picture technically.

From "1964-1 England to Entebbe" by Mary Dyer-Bennet. Agfachrome transparency in cardboard mount, imprinted #34. Handwritten number "117" in corner. I can't read it any other way. Green Park Hotel on Half Moon St. in London. Or maybe the building next door was what was of interest, or something. I don't recall that we stayed there ever.
The Parthenon. I've only been there once, so this was in the summer of 1964 (part of the trip to Entebbe). Shot with my trusty Pixie 127 camera, probably with a yellow filter. My finger in front of the lens at left, I guess. Parthenon
Elephant, in the wild. Probably in Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda (in 1964, name may have been different). elephant
Boeing 727 airliner in American Airlines paint. That's most likely the Minneapolis airport. Early 1960s I imagine, but I haven't found anything to date it.
Jet passenger liner on ground at airport. Perhaps this was the start of the 1964 trip to Entebbe? Plane is N721PA, and steps are Pan Am, so this was probably a Pan Am plane. Identified as "Jet Clipper Splendid" over the door. Airliners.net shows there was a Boeing 707-321 with that registration and name in the early 1960s.
