DD-B's Snapshots from 1970-71

Filing by school year. And I'm not completely sure I've got them all filed right yet either.

The immediate cause for scanning these was for our 30th reunion, coming up this summer (2002). That's also why some of them are so big -- sized for what I think the requirements of the Powerpoint presentation will be. Of course other things on rolls I looked at got snatched up while I was in the neighborhood....

It's amazing who I can, and cannot, recognize (or remember the names of). My apologies to anybody incorrectly identified, or any close friends whose names I can't now remember.

Herr Rockey cures Joan's headache by brain surgery
I don't know if this is a set-piece each year, or if it started with our year. I never considered it before, but looking at that prop chainsaw it doesn't seem that likely that it was a one-shot performance. Herr Rockey found an article in a magazine about an African "witch doctor" who opened a patient's head to cure a headache, and he told us the story in great detail (in german), and acted it out. On Joan Erickson, as it happens. On a day I had the camera with me, as it happens. There's a slight possibility it was December 17 of some year, but I'm not at all sure the notations on the negative sleeves are reliable for this roll. (Jerry Hurbutt partially obscured in the background) This picture and the rest of the set appeared on pages 50 and 51 of the 1971 Norhian (yearbook), so presumably it was in fact shot in the 70-71 school year. Besides, I don't think Joan was around the year before (if not, probably because her father was on sabatical). Erickson, Joan; Rockey, Herr

And I don't recognize the person. I don't think it's one of the usual computer center crowd. This may be one of the chemistry class using the programmed learning module that Don Matsen wrote using my teaching language. This picture appears (full page!) on page 126 of the 1971 Norhian . It doesn't identify him, either :-(.
Ann Hero in math class
Ann Hero in math class
This is probably the same math class as ddb 51-19. According to the identification on page 15 of the 1971 , it's Ann Hero. That volume further identifies her as class of 1971. (Meaning not my year.) Hero, Ann

Linda Hansen, maybe? And Vicki Sorbo, with Dick Scott in the background. If this is actually Dick Scott's class, and not just one he filled in in, then these are from 11th grade, 1970-1971 school year. Or else I'm confused about what I took when (but I know I took calculus courses at Carleton my senior year in highschool). Hansen, Linda; Scott, Dick; Sorby, Vicki

Hank Helgen and David Anderson. Voting, obviously. Which means it's probably related to a student government election, and probably means the presentation in the gym earlier was related to that also. Anderson, David; Helgen, Hank

Can't place the particular class. Probably in 1970. People, from left to right as the faces are first encountered, and with a fair amount of guesswork: David Dyer-Bennet,Kris Aamodt?, Cheryl Ramette, Sarah Nordstrom, Marvilyn Christensen, Leah Haworth, ?, Joanne Wheeler, Claudia Henderson, Linda Hanson, Mike Moberg, LuAnn Nelson, Jean Abbott, Laurie Williams. Standard disclaimer and apology -- several people I'm sure I should be able to put a name to. Identifications seem to be somewhat disputed. Girl holding ball is Jean Abbot and standing in the upper center is Kris Hendrickson both from class of '72. Next to Kris is Marcia Good's middle brother Paul. (Thanks to Mark Hansen and Carolyn Blankenburg Barnard for ids. Carolyn also notes there are 3 Klinkhammers in this photo.). But Dawn Johnson Raadt says "Not Jean Abbott I think. Bev Larsen from our class, on the right of the person with the ball, skipping the next person, I think the following 2 are Ann Teske and Kathy Brown" Abbot; Abbot, Jean; and; ball; both; brother; Brown, Kathy; center; class; for; from; Girl; good; Good, Paul; Hansen; Hendrickson; Hendrickson, Kris; holding; ids; Jean; Kris; Larsen, Bev; Marcia; Mark; next; standing; Teske, Ann; thanks; the; upper; younger
