Upgrade

I think it’s happened.  For the first time ever (since I’ve had PC-level computers at work), I actually have a more powerful computer at work than at home.

Note dust mats over air vents
Clean!

The new one is pretty much just this year’s model; very little difference visible from the outside.

But it has 3 times the memory and twice the processors.  And 15000 RPM enterprise SAS drives, in RAID0 for high performance.

Also more scren space

Ken Olsen died Sunday

He founded Digital Equipment Corporation, and was still running it when I worked there.

(ETA: Huh; posting from the phone reduced the photo and posted only that one version, rather than a smaller linked to a bigger.  Thus some of you may have missed  that I have Ken’s obituary up on the left monitor, and my old Minneapolis Branch DEC mug on the desk in front of the right monitor.)

Office Decor

Here’s the result of the work on making prints to decorate the office where I work.

The Office

I shot 4 frames with the LX3 to get the coverage. And did it sloppily enough that I then spent an hour or thereabouts touching things up, and there are still at least two really awful bits (but you might be surprised some of the things that got fixed).

I should probably just shoot another set tomorrow, more carefully.  With more safety margin.
